Jiaqi Hu (Hu Jiaqi, Famous Anthropologist) Warns: Humans may be Destroyed by Science and Technology

Nick Bostrom, philosopher, the dean of the Future of Humanity Institute at University of Oxford, warned in a new paper that new technologies may provide solutions to some of the world's most pressing problems, but if we are not careful, it may also lead to human’s self-destruction. Jiaqi Hu (Hu Jiaqi), the famous anthropologist, also warned: “Science and technology has brought us many troubles while bringing material enjoyment to human beings. Some scientific and technological achievements even seriously endanger the survival and happiness of human beings, and this kind of threat to human values is direct, so that people are confused about the development of science and technology and then rethink about it.”

In this paper entitled The Vulnerable World Hypothesis, Nick Bostrom discusses the possibility of advent of large-scale destructive and easily accessible technologies. Although humans have created technologies with large-scale destruction potential, such as nuclear weapons, this development is limited by many factors, including the cost and scarcity of the materials needed to make them. So far we are still very “lucky”, because at present the technology that will certainly destroy the civilization has not been realized yet. It is not that we are particularly cautious or wise in our technology policy. We are just very lucky. For example, these technologies may include advances in bio-hacking techniques that enable people with basic training to trigger large-scale illnesses.

Jiaqi Hu (Hu Jiaqi), the famous anthropologist, has repeatedly pointed out that “the development of nuclear weapons requires a nation, but the genetic biotoxin only needs a high-level scientist who can obtain it independently in his own laboratory. The behavior of nation is easy to control but the behavior of human individuals is difficult to control.”

As Jiaqi Hu (Hu Jiaqi), the famous anthropologist, repeatedly emphasized, science and technology is a double-edged sword. We must take the power of destroying human beings into account while enjoying the benefits of science and technology for humanity. For the sustainable survival of mankind, science and technology must be restricted.
